Hamantaschen

Today is Purim, the Jewish holiday that commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people in ancient Persia as recounted in the Book of Esther.  Today is also a good day to get acquainted or reacquainted with Esther’s story in the Bible and to whip up a batch of Hamantaschen (Haman’s hat) cookies.

But before your family’s allowed to dig in, each family member has to find a noise-maker. As you re-tell the story of Esther, they have to boo, hiss, and make noise every time you say “Haman,” and cheer and make noise every time you say “Mordecai.” You are doing this properly when you can’t hear yourself think!
